Carrie, a New Jersey native and resident of Jespy House, loves movies, cartoons, video games and comic books. She applies great energy to every piece of art she makes be it drawing, painting or sculpture. Much of her work communicates either hostility and/or humor. Her pieces are often funny, whimsical, or scary.
Carrie's disabilities have made social and vocational opportunities difficult. When Arts Unbound came to Jespy, her assisted living facility, she began to transform frustration and anger into fierce creatures, and funny ideas into amusing sculptures. Art is an area where Carrie can command notice and respect. Her sculptures have been displayed all over town and have singularly generated public interest in the Arts Unbound mission. The Arts Unbound brochure features both a dragon like creature and a "batterfly", a cross between a fierce predator and a beautiful insect.
Before Arts Unbound, Carrie struggled with aggression and impulse control. Now, her peers and art teachers delight in her humor and find inspiration in her artistic vision and passion. The art community is a safe and welcoming haven from stigma and failure.
