Greg Young
Greg Youngis one of
Arts Unbound's students at Universal Institute. Greg wrote
a poem called "Heaven" which was a winning entry at the 2007 VSA
Arts of New Jersey Wordsmith Competition. Holly Scalera
and Jocelyn Bates are his poetry teachers.
In May 2008, Greg was
honored at a Universal Institute ceremony, where he was officially presented
with a Governor's Proclamation by the Honorable Former First Lady, Mrs. Mary Jo Codey.
Greg's winning poem is presented below:
HEAVEN
WELL, I MADE IT TO HEAVEN
BUT I LEFT MY WALLET IN MY OTHER PANTS
THE BOUNCER SAID I COULDN'T GO IN
WITHOUT SOME PROPER I.D.
TO PROVE I WAS ON THE GUEST LIST
SO I HAD TO GO ALL THE WAY BACK TO EARTH
AND WOULDN'T YOU KNOW
MY SISTER ALREADY GAVE ALL MY CLOTHES
TO THE SALVATION ARMY
NEEDLESS TO SAY I COULDN'T FIND MY DRIVER'S LICENSE,
MY PASSPORT, OR EITHER OF MY CREDIT CARDS FOR THAT MATTER
SO I WENT TO THE VILLAGE
AND DOWN ON CHRISTOPHER STREET
THERE WAS A STORE THAT MADE PHONEY COLLEGE I.D.S
I GOT ONE WITH MY OWN NAME THAT SAYS
I GO TO FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY
HEY IT'S BETTER THAN NOTHING
WHEN I GOT BACK TO HEAVEN
THEY HAD STARTED CHARGING FIVE BUCKS TO GET IN
ON ACCOUNT OF SOME REALLY GOOD COVER BAND WAS GONNA
